Ahead of schedule and on budget, the GEO Aurora Processing Center Annex Facility in Aurora, CO has been a prized project for Sierra Detention Systems. The 1,100 bed facility including both detention equipment and security electronics scopes is set to be finished in December, the final month of the project's 14 month timeline.

Custom designed for The GEO Group, the Sierra security electronics team tailored a system to fit the use of the facility. The team worked closely with Senior Project Engineer, Kirk Cote and the SDS design/build team. On-site Project Manager, Brett Noecker, attributes the seamless progression of the GEO project to Cote and the teams saying, “The ability to succeed on a project starts from the beginning when the project is being engineered. Because the design/build team was both designing and engineering that job at relatively the same time it allowed the project to avoid the long lead issues that normally occur in fast track construction. Sierra was familiar with the project and did not have many issues releasing materials that would be needed in the initial stages of construction.”

Also keeping the project on track was GEO's choice to use prefabricated steel cells from SteelCell of North America Inc. Sierra prepared and scheduled the production and shipment of the cells so that in only 60 working days, all detention cells had been installed. Ensuring the engineering and fabrication of the cells was completed in the factory provided Sierra with a finished product delivered on-site and installation ready.

With accurate planning and engagement from each department in Sierra, the GEO ICE Unit project management team completed one of Sierra's most noteworthy projects of 2009.
