La Plata County Detention Facility Addition and Upgrades

Durango, CO | 2007-2008

Project Manager: Brett Noecker

Field Superintendent: Dani Thoene

In 2007-2008 Sierra teamed with general contractor, FCI, to upgrade the La Plata County Detention Facility. An 84-cell housing unit was added to the existing facility using a two-level Trussbilt wall system for the detention cells. Additionally, the detention scope included detention furnishings, detention and commercial hollow metal and hardware, and glazing.

Sierra was also contracted by the County to provide a new security electronics system for both the new and existing building. This integrated the existing building and controls into one main system. Included in this scope were CCTV, video visitation system, door control and digital intercom systems.

The video visitation system is a Sierra Detention Systems designed and produced system with custom design and recording capabilities.

As is typical of Colorado weather, Mother Nature couldn't help making herself known in the middle of spring construction. Within two months, the jobsite was covered under three, 21 inch snowfalls, essentially burrying the site. Nevertheless, under the leadership of Brett Noecker and Dani Thoene, the Sierra team completed the project on-time.
